Hindustan Ambassador Relaunch: Keeping in mind that the Hindustan Ambassador, the oldest and most popular sedan in the Indian automobile sector, has been the choice of people like government employees and politicians for the past several years, the Citroën brand has decided to launch it once again in the Indian market, but this time it will be offered as an electric vehicle.

Talking about the specifications and features of the Citroën brand’s Ambassador electric sedan, you get high-tech features and new technology-based specifications like a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, lithium-ion battery, and safety features like ABS and EBD for just ₹10-15 lakh. To give it an iconic look, the brand has offered color options like Classic White, Royal Black, Metallic Grey, and Vintage Green. So let’s know all the details about it.

The Ambassador’s Golden History: A Journey That Hasn’t Stopped

The Hindustan Ambassador’s story begins with the British Morris Oxford Series III, which Hindustan Motors licensed and introduced to India in 1957. Manufactured at the Uttarpara plant in Kolkata, this car seemed tailor-made for Indian roads—with a robust chassis, spacious interiors, and simple maintenance. In the 1960s and 1970s, it became the preferred choice for government vehicles, taxis, and middle-class families. Known as the “King of Indian Roads,” the Ambassador handled millions of journeys, whether on the streets of Delhi or the coasts of Mumbai.

Even after production ceased in 2014, its popularity remained undiminished. In 2017, the brand was sold to PSA Group (now Stellantis), but Hindustan Motors has announced its electric relaunch in 2025. This return will not only evoke nostalgia but also contribute to India’s electric mobility revolution. Experts believe that this car will attract old fans as well as young buyers who want a mix of retro design and modern features.

2025 Ambassador: Old Magic in Design, New Magic in Technology

The design of the 2025 Hindustan Ambassador is reminiscent of the classic Ambassador, but with a modern twist. The large chrome grille, round headlamps, and boxy silhouette retain the old charm, but LED lighting and sleek aerodynamic lines make it contemporary. The car will measure approximately 4.5 meters in length, giving it the appearance of a premium sedan.

The interior will feature leather seats, a touchscreen infotainment system (with a 10-inch display), wireless charging, and a panoramic sunroof. For safety, six airbags and ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) such as automatic emergency braking and lane keep assist will be standard.
